Pre-EdTalk Blog Post: 5K Run

Our fundraising event took place on the 8th of May at the Benjakitti Park in Asok. Everything went as planned - or better than planned! We raised 11,000 Baht on early sign-ups and donations, and were hoping to raise at least 5,000 Baht on the day of the run in order to provide two scholarships. However, to our surprise, we raised a grand total of 35,150 Baht!!! This included both the money from the early sign-ups and the money collected on the day of the run. It is hard to believe that our community is so caring and amazing. Despite our bad time management and procrastination, people still pulled together for a cause that really matters. I deeply appreciate it. If I could have done things differently, I would have definitely planned everything better and managed my time better too, since this would’ve allowed us to raise a lot more money than we did (I think). Despite this, I am extremely happy and grateful for the results. I learned that time management is fundamental and can make a big difference, but most importantly I learned that people like me are very privileged to have the opportunities we have, and I am glad to be able to give these opportunities to the children of the slum through these scholarships. For my EdTalk, I have prepared a video with short clips from the run that I will be showing. We are planning in describing our experience throughout the project, and also talk about what we did wrong/could have done better, and what we learned from this. When we are approaching the end of the talk, we will announce the final amount of money raised, and thank the teachers that helped us organize this, and of course everyone who donated to make this happen. We will end it by remarking how truly lucky all of us are to be where we are.
