Getting the Wheels Turning: Pitch Day

Providing scholarships for the children in the slums requires A LOT of money, which will be collected through donations and fundraising activites. To promote our project - and our future fundraising events - Jenny and I prepared a pitch, which we presented in front of middle school and high school students. The pitch was something along the following lines:

• There are thousands of children with no education in Thailand

• And have bad living conditions

• For example

• Children in the Klong Toey Slums are surrounded by violence, mafias, drug dealers, and delinquents

• Without education

• they would grow up doing things like

• drug dealing

• stealing

• going to jail at a very young age

• it also leads to other issues

• such as

• being pregnant at a very young age

• which is like kids your age having babies

• result

• can’t raise them properly

• their children go through the same things

• We want to stop this cycle

• We’re doing this by organizing a fundraising drive for Dream of a Future’s students’ scholarships

• Because a lot of children attending the organization have had to drop out because they are unable to afford it. Each child would get a scholarship of about 5000-8000 baht

• We talked to the charity’s coordinator

• and selected a few children to focus on

• we plan to visit their homes

• to get more insights into their lives

• so we could share them with you during our Ted Talk in May

• Then, we created posters

• to promote our cause

• and raise awareness

• And also came up with some fundraising ideas

• our first plan was a bake sale

• which was held last week w/ the help of the Student Council

• then we plan to have a musical charity event

• we also planned to organize trivia games

• and lastly we would like to promote our cause online

• via Berkeley website

• and facebook page

• so that we could reach out to the wider community

• and receive more supports and donations

• So those are our plans…
